Responding to Alerts

What each FizzWizz alert means, what to do when one fires, and how alerts reach you from the unit to your phone.

Responding to alerts

The FizzWizz detects conditions that affect carbonation and sends notifications. This page covers what each alert means from the machine's side — what is actually happening, and what to do about it.

For how alerts are configured and delivered, see Alerts & Alert Rules and Notification Preferences.

How alerts reach you

Readings flow from the FizzWizz to BrewWizz, where they are validated and stored. When a new reading arrives, BrewWizz checks your active alert rules and creates an alert event when a threshold is crossed. Depending on your plan and preferences, that event appears in the dashboard and can also be sent by email or SMS.

If a threshold is crossed but no alert appears, the cause is usually your plan, the rule setup, or the cooldown — not the device. Check in this order: plan includes alert rules → rule exists for that device and condition → cooldown has expired → the reading actually matches the threshold → subscription is Active or in Trial. Alert features are switched off while a subscription is past due, cancelled, or incomplete.

What the FizzWizz alerts on

Diminishing CO₂ supply

What it means: Pressure at the CO₂ inlet is falling. Your supply is running low.

What to do:

  1. Check the CO₂ reg psi reading on the display or in the dashboard.
  2. Confirm the regulator setting — it should be 30–40 psi.
  3. Change the CO₂ cylinder before it empties.
  4. If pressure is low but the supply is full, see Ident A — By Symptom.

Running out mid-batch stalls carbonation. The batch then has to be rested with the FizzWizz in carbonation mode so CO₂ can re-dissolve at the right equilibrium pressure. Planning cylinder changes ahead of long runs avoids this.

Misconnections

What it means: Gas is going somewhere it should not — typically a hose connected to the wrong port, or a valve in the wrong position.

What to do:

  1. Check the stone hose and arm hose are on the correct ports.
  2. Confirm the swiffer valve on the separator is closed.
  3. Confirm the stone isolation valve is in the expected position.
  4. Run Check 3 and Check 4 to confirm each button operates the expected port.

Leaking fittings

What it means: Gas is escaping somewhere in the circuit.

What to do:

  1. Spray suspect fittings with soapy water and look for bubbles.
  2. Check the push-to-connect fittings first — they are the most common source of small leaks.
  3. Run Check 6 — Leak Testing to isolate which circuit is leaking.
  4. If the tank will not build pressure, see Carbonation & Brite Pressure.

Glycol system issues

What it means: Something in the glycol system is affecting the unit or the tank's thermal behaviour. Glycol faults usually show up as temperature instability.

What to do:

  1. Check the glycol system is running and at the expected setpoint.
  2. Look for glycol line runs near the FizzWizz — a dripping glycol line onto the enclosure is a problem.
  3. Check for condensation around the unit.
  4. Confirm the temperature reading is stable, and if not, run the Slushy WizzTemp Test to rule the probe out.

Carbonation stone inefficiencies

What it means: The stone is not diffusing gas as effectively as expected — usually fouling or hydrophobic buildup.

What to do:

  1. Clean the stone — see WizzStone-Combo cleaning.
  2. Check the flow rate against the calculator.
  3. Inspect the stone for damage. Ceramic is not impact-resistant.
  4. If cleaning does not help, see Carbonation & Brite Pressure.

Carbonation stones cause a disproportionate share of carbonation complaints. A regular cleaning schedule prevents hydrophobic buildup and most stone-related issues. The stone must be cleaned after every use.

Alerts that are not about the machine

Some alert behaviour has nothing to do with the FizzWizz:
