Assisted Manual Carbonation

Understand the PacWizz manual's optional carbonation-stone method, example settings, stable-temperature requirement, and measurement limitations.

An optional method, not automatic carbonation control

The PacWizz manual describes a way to assist manual carbonation by connecting the Brite gas hose to a carbonation stone. This is different from normal packaging and purging connections.

PacWizz does not adjust this method for temperature changes. It is not recommended where tank temperature fluctuates substantially, for example by ±2 °C. The foot sensor is suited to packaging pressure control, but its accuracy and repeatability can produce variable carbonation results.

If you need temperature-compensated carbonation control, see the FizzWizz documentation.

Before using this method

  • Follow Safety & Site Requirements, including tank pressure relief and outside venting for the purge sequence.
  • Confirm your stone, tank fittings, gas supply, and procedure are suitable. Ask BrewWizz to confirm an unfamiliar arrangement.
  • Keep temperature stable and verify the actual carbonation using your normal process checks.

Connection arrangement

The manual shows the Brite hose connected to the carbonation stone, with the pressure sensor at the CIP arm and the RMB providing the vent path.

Open the stone isolation valve only slightly, so CO₂ trickles through the stone rather than flowing rapidly.

Assisted manual carbonation arrangement: the Brite hose feeds the carbonation stone, the pressure sensor remains at the CIP arm, and the remote motorized ball-valve controls the vent path.

Manual's example settings

Select Tank Purge and set:

SettingExample value
Purge to Psi3 psi
Vent to Psi1 psi
Finish Psi10 psi
Number of Cycles1

Follow the Tank Purge confirmation procedure and supervise the run.

Expected result and limitations

The manual gives an example of approximately 2.6 volumes of CO₂ at 0 °C (32 °F) with a 10 psi finish setting, subject to its carbonation-stone wetted-pressure condition. At that same temperature, it describes roughly 0.1 additional volume for each extra 1 psi of finish pressure.

Volumes of CO₂ describe how much gas is dissolved in the beverage relative to its liquid volume. The values above are estimates, not guaranteed outcomes.

The manual makes the estimate conditional on the stone's wetted pressure — the pressure needed for gas to pass through a wetted stone — but does not provide a stone-specific value or a complete adjustment procedure. Confirm that condition with BrewWizz for your stone rather than treating the example as a universal recipe.

  • There is no temperature compensation in this method.
  • Sensor measurement variation can change the result.
  • Stone characteristics affect the result.
  • It may reduce the risk of overcarbonation, but does not guarantee protection against it.
  • Additional finish pressure must always remain within tank and equipment limits.
