Purge Times & Gas Supply
Plan PacWizz purge time and gas supply using the manual's tank-size examples, and understand warnings caused by insufficient regulator flow.
What affects purge time?
The main factors are tank capacity and the regulator's ability to deliver gas at the required pressure and flow. The purge pressure, vent pressure, cycle count, and installation also affect the run.
A regulator that cannot supply enough gas allows the supply pressure to drop; the PacWizz then displays a warning.
Manual's example times
These examples use two regulators and the manual's default sequence: 15 psi purge, 3 psi vent, 9.25 psi finish, five cycles.
| Tank working size | Total tank capacity | Approximate purge time |
|---|---|---|
| 15 BBL | 18 BBL | 1 hour 5 minutes |
| 30 BBL | 35 BBL | 2 hours 20 minutes |
BBL is the brewery's barrel-size designation in these examples. For an empty-tank purge, pay attention to total capacity, not only the tank's usual working fill volume.
Treat these as planning estimates, not guaranteed run times. Your supply and installation may differ.
If a gas-supply warning appears
- Check that the gas supply is available and your regulator arrangement can deliver the required pressure and flow.
- Check the gas hose connections and the valve positions for your purging setup.
- The manual recommends the supplied dual CO₂-in connector and two regulators when one regulator cannot maintain adequate supply.
- If the warning continues, the manual advises slightly throttling the foot isolation valve — partially closing the valve on the tank-foot gas-injection path — to reduce demand until the warning clears.
The throttling advice above is for purging gas injection at the tank foot, not the tank-side valve of a bottom-mounted packaging sensor. In a foot-sensor packaging setup, that tank-side valve must remain open while pressurizing. See Packaging Connections.
Do not increase tank pressure beyond its limits to overcome a supply warning. The manual does not give a universal regulator outlet-pressure setting; ask BrewWizz to confirm settings or a dual-regulator arrangement for your installation.
Plan a supervised run
- Allow time for the full purge and a post-purge pressure check.
- Ensure enough gas is available before you start.
- Keep the outside exhaust route and ventilation/extraction operating throughout purging.
- Do not leave a tank purging overnight, even if a large tank needs a long run.
